White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre rebuffed an offer by EMILY’s List to serve as its president, opting instead to stick with Biden.

Two people familiar with the offer told NBC News that the board of Emily’s List, a group that funds politicians in favor of abortion rights, approached Jean-Pierre for the position, offering an interview that would fast-track her to the spot. The White House press secretary, who took the position in May 2022, declined the offer, citing her loyalty to President Joe Biden.

“I’m committed to the president,” Jean-Pierre reportedly told the group. “I’m not going anywhere.”

EMILY’s List is run by interim President Jessica Mackler, who is expected to take the spot permanently.

Aside from loyalty to Biden, Jean-Pierre could have been motivated by internal pressure, as such a high-profile departure during a critical reelection year could cause chaos within the administration.

Jean-Pierre’s time as press secretary has been a period of stability in a position with high turnover. If she remains in the position through the rest of the year, she will be the longest-serving press secretary since Obama press secretary Josh Earnest.
