Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the men’s singles final on Sunday to win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon championship and seventh overall.
The victory on Sunday brings the Serbian tennis player’s grand slam title count to 21, just one behind the all-time record held by Rafael Nadal.

“Every single time, it gets more and more meaningful and special,” Djokovic said, according to ESPN. “It always has been, and will be, the most special tournament in my heart. The one that motivated me and inspired me to start playing tennis in a small little mountain resort in Serbia.”
Djokovic was top-seeded going into the tournament and remained a powerhouse throughout. He also won the championship in 2018, 2019, and 2021. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Djokovic’s status in the U.S. Open next month remains in limbo, though, as he is unvaccinated against COVID-19. Unvaccinated foreigners are currently unable to enter the United States by plane, per guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“I would love to go to States. But as of today, that’s not possible. There is not much I can do anymore. I mean, it’s really up to the U.S. government to make a decision whether or not they allow unvaccinated people to go into the country,” Djokovic told Forbes last month.
