House Democrats are preparing an offensive against Republicans on the issue of in vitro fertilization.
An internal memo from the House Majority PAC, obtained by Axios, outlined Republicans who have sponsored the Life at Conception Act between 2021 and 2023, which could jeopardize IVF, and are now vulnerable to attacks. The memo pledges to undertake an aggressive ad campaign highlighting their support for the bill in competitive districts in the fall.
“While some House Republicans may pretend to oppose the ruling, their support tells a drastically different story,” the memo read.
“HMP can guarantee that their support will be used against them over paid media in competitive House districts across the country this fall,” it continued.
Republicans were quick to respond.
“This is sheer nonsense and nothing but a desperate political ploy to deceive voters when Members obviously support I.V.F. and have made it clear they do,” Courtney Parella, a spokeswoman for Republicans’ Congressional Leadership Fund, told the outlet.

One of those targeted in the memo, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), hit back that Democrats have “always twisted the intent of that bill.” He countered that he hadn’t got on one version of the bill for that very reason and asked the authors to “craft [it] more carefully so that it couldn’t be twisted by the Dems.”
Since the Alabama ruling, many Republicans have come out publicly in support of IVF, including former President Donald Trump and Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Nancy Mace (R-SC).
