Johnny Depp settled a lawsuit against him that claimed he punched a crew member during the 2017 filming of City of Lies.
Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, the film’s then-location manager, claims he was punched by the actor twice in the ribs after he said there would be one more shot left to film on April 13. Now, Judge Holly J. Fujie ruled to postpone the trial, originally set for July 25, to Jan. 5, unless Depp fulfills his end of the undisclosed agreement, in which case the suit will be dismissed entirely.
Brooks alleged that Depp had to be removed from the set by his bodyguards after hitting and yelling at him. While Brooks did not retaliate, Depp reportedly egged the manager on, offering Brooks $100,000 to punch him in the face in return.

As soon as reports surrounding the lawsuit were published in 2018, City of Lies director Brad Furman issued a statement in Depp’s defense.
“Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, great collaborator and a supporter of other artists,” Furman said. “He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect. Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories — there isn’t one here.”

A jury in another lawsuit last month awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages, per a Virginia statute, as a result of his ex-wife Amber Heard defaming him. Heard also won $2 million in compensatory damages but is still seeking the verdict be overturned due to alleged “potential improper jury service.”
