An explosion at a California FBI training facility injured 16 people, one of them severely, police said.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. during a training exercise involving a SWAT team and bomb squad, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department told CBS Los Angeles. The explosion occurred inside a small building on an FBI property. The victims were all Orange County Sheriff’s SWAT deputies, the OCSD said.

“A training incident that occurred today at the FBI’s training facility in Irvine with law enforcement partners resulted in some injuries and is under investigation,” the FBI said in a statement.

Two of the injuries were to deputies’ legs, one of which will require surgery. A third suffered a back injury, which does not require surgery. The remainder of the victims suffered due to the noise of the blast, causing them to complain of dizziness and ear pain, according to the OCSD.
