President Joe Biden’s campaign finance chairman argued that “no one” else has the same amount of respect on the global stage, expressing his gratitude that his boss is president.
Rufus Gifford made the statement on Saturday when asked about the discussions he has had in recruiting voters, specifically regarding global events such as the war in Gaza and the war between Russia and Ukraine. The topic of the war in Gaza has split voters in the United States.
“I can tell you, having been in those rooms, behind closed doors, there is no one who has the same level of respect on the world stage than Joe Biden does,” Gifford said. “There are enormous challenges facing the country, there are enormous challenges facing the world, and I can tell you this, that as an American, I am absolutely thrilled that we have President Joe Biden at the helm.”
Campaign fundraising was also discussed after the Biden campaign took $90 million in donations last month and entered the second quarter with $192 million in cash on hand. Gifford argued that the high amount of fundraising “speaks to the strengths” that the party currently has.
Gifford added that all of the campaign funds are being used to talk to voters and are not being spent to fight legal bills, a likely dig at presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and the numerous legal battles he faces.
“This election is going to be close,” Gifford said. “Every single person knows that this election is going to be close, and it will continue to be close until Election Day.”

On Saturday evening, Trump raised more than $50 million at an event in Palm Beach, Florida. The event was hosted by billionaire investor John Paulson and was attended by the likes of hedge fund manager Robert Mercer and oil magnate Harold Hamm, along with ex-2024 Republican presidential candidates Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND).
A recent poll from the Wall Street Journal indicated that Trump is currently ahead of Biden in six out of seven battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina, while the two were tied in Wisconsin at 46%. Almost all of these states went to Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
