Biden’s campaign is planning a fundraiser that will feature former President Barack Obama, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts.
The fundraiser will be held in Los Angeles sometime next month and will feature a contest put on by Clooney and Roberts across social media aimed at bringing in grassroots donations, according to NBC News, which cited a Biden campaign official.
Clooney and Roberts, both major Hollywood stars, will also help President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign by being included in the campaign’s text messages and email blasts. The goal is to increase Biden’s cash advantage against former President Donald Trump, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
News of the latest star-studded fundraiser comes after a similar March fundraiser in New York featuring Biden, Obama, and former President Bill Clinton netted some $26 million for the campaign. Thousands of attendees descended upon the iconic Radio City Music Hall as part of the event.
Biden, who didn’t have any serious challengers for the Democratic nomination, has held a cash lead over Trump over the past few months.
“We’re not under any illusion that he’s not going to narrow the gap,” a Biden campaign adviser told NBC. “But what he can’t get back is the time we’ve had with all this money to do what we’ve done.”
The fundraising component of the Biden and Trump campaigns is expected to keep heating up as the Republican and Democratic parties prepare for their national conventions in Wisconsin and Chicago, respectively.

Polling shows that the rematch between Biden and Trump is a tight contest, with some surveys showing Trump with a slight nationwide edge and others showing Biden leading.
A RealClearPolitics aggregate of recent polls indicates that Trump is leading by just over 1%. When other third-party candidates are thrown into the mix, polling indicates Trump is up by a higher margin.
