Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced Thursday that he is looking into the failed attempt to foreclose on Elvis Presley‘s former home.

The Graceland mansion in Memphis was nearly foreclosed on by Naussany Investments and Private Lending until a judge stopped the attempt on Wednesday. The company claimed that a $3.8 million loan was taken out with the property used as collateral by Presley’s only child, Lisa Marie Presley, who died last year. According to her daughter Riley Keough, the loan is fraudulent and Lisa Marie Presley never borrowed money.

“My office has fought fraud against homeowners for decades, and there is no home in Tennessee more beloved than Graceland,” Skrmetti said in a statement. “I have asked my lawyers to look into this matter, determine the full extent of any misconduct that may have occurred, and identify what we can do to protect both Elvis Presley’s heirs and anyone else who may be similarly threatened.”

Skrmetti thanked the Presley family for having “generously shared” the home, which has become “one of the most iconic landmarks in the State of Tennessee” since June 7, 1982. The open house attraction stands as a “monument to [Elvis’s] legacy and a fond remembrance for his family” that attracts tourists every year. The only other residence that attracts more tourists is the White House in Washington, D.C.

This contested deed comes from a 2018 signature from Lisa Marie Presley that was reportedly not notarized. Per the Shelby County Register of Deeds, there is no record of a deed pertaining to Graceland.

Keough was granted a stay of the sale for the duration of her lawsuit against Naussany Investments and Private Lending. She is accusing the company of fraud.
