NFL player JJ Watt will be funding the funeral of a fan’s grandfather after seeing her attempt to fundraise it on her own via Twitter.

Jennifer Simpson took to Twitter early Thursday to post photos of her JJ Watt women’s edition Reebok sneakers. Simpson tagged the NFL defensive end in her post.

“They are great shoes, im only selling because we are raising money for my grandpas funeral,” Simpson wrote. “I also have a Watt womens XL Texans Jersey $30. Anyone interested?”

“Don’t sell your shoes and jersey, we’ll help with the funeral,” Watt responded on Twitter within a half hour of the first tweet. “I’m sorry for your loss.” His response received over 205,000 likes on the platform.

Watt is no longer playing for the Houston Texans, but he joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. The defensive end won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2012, his second year in the league. He is known for his generosity, as he also covered the funeral costs for those who died in the Waukesha Christmas parade massacre last year.

“I posted last night trying to sell valuable items to raise money. I woke up overwhelmed by the love and support of people who don’t even know my grandpas story,” Simpson responded later on Thursday. “My family is so grateful for you all!”
