CHRIS CUOMO TO APPEAR IN FIRST TV INTERVIEW SINCE CNN FIRING

“Now, for me, the past is the past, and there is no benefit to you if I relitigate what was said and done involving my brother,” Chris Cuomo said on the debut episode of The Chris Cuomo Project released Thursday.

“There are some outstanding legal fights that I have to respect, but let me be clear: I really do regret how everything ended, but I will never regret helping my family,” he added. “I promised my father I would always be there for my brother, and I always will be, just like he has always been there for me, just like my sisters have been there for me and have been there for him. That’s family.”

The former CNN anchor also said he has no ill will toward his former employer.

“As for CNN, I’ll never be a hater,” Chris Cuomo said. “CNN has great people, CNN has a great purpose, and I wish them all the best, and I miss so many of them, but it’s time for me to move on.”

Chris Cuomo was fired from CNN last year over revelations that he helped his brother, Andrew Cuomo, combat sexual misconduct allegations that ultimately culminated in his resignation as governor. The then anchor reportedly leaned on his media contacts to gather information about his brother’s accusers. The former governor denied all allegations of inappropriate touching.

In March, Chris Cuomo filed a demand for arbitration against CNN, seeking $125 million in damages and claiming his “journalistic integrity” was “unjustifiably smeared.”

Chris Cuomo also distanced himself ideologically from his brother and his father, Mario Cuomo, both of whom were Democratic mayors of New York.

“I love my father. I love my brother. I respect them both tremendously, but I’m no Democrat,” Chris Cuomo said. “Not simply because I’m in the media, and I am not here to make any of you feel comfortable being a lefty. I want you to question why you are. I have Republicans, I have Trumpers among my friends, and I mean my real friends, not just, you know, people I take pictures with at events.”

He also admitted that his first vote ever was for George H.W. Bush in the 1988 presidential election while insisting that he rejects both political parties.

The first episode of the podcast featured actor Sean Penn discussing the war in Ukraine. Chris Cuomo’s first television interview since leaving CNN is set to air next week on NewsNation.
