The Uvalde, Texas, school board passed a resolution urging Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to call for a special legislative session to pass legislation to raise the legal age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21 years old.
Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District trustees voted unanimously to approve the measure on Monday, more than two months after an 18-year-old gunman entered Uvalde Elementary School and killed 19 students and two teachers with an AR-style rifle.

Uvalde County commissioners have also called for Abbott to call for such a special session, according to the Texas Tribune.
In the aftermath of the school shooting, Abbott has focused on boosting mental health resources and upping safety plans in the school system. In June, he asked the Texas legislature to form special committees to make recommendations.
Law enforcement and the school district have faced heavy backlash for taking so long to stop the shooter, who was inside the classrooms where he unleashed his attack for more than an hour before law enforcement stormed in and killed him, as shown in a recently released video.
