The White House transcript of President Joe Biden‘s Sunday night address re-highlighted a gaffe the president said, and repeated, in the Oval Office.

Biden’s remarks, his third Oval Office address as president, focused heavily on lowering the “temperature” in U.S. politics following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

After stating that he shared a “short but good” conversation with Trump the prior night, the president called on voters to reject political violence and solve their differences at the “battol box,” instead of ballot box.

The White House transcript of Biden’s remarks, published Monday morning, featured an odd spin on the president’s verbal blunder.

“But in America, we resolve our differences at the battol [ballot] box. You know, that’s how we do it, at the battol [ballot] box, not with bullets,” the transcript says. “The power to change America should always rest in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a would-be assassin.”

The treatment of the transcript appears to suggest that Biden mispronounced ballot, rather than using the wrong word.

In the previous passage, Biden had correctly referred to the ballot box as an outlet for political difference, as opposed to “violence on our streets.”
