Gas prices dropped again on Wednesday, marking another week in which the average cost for a gallon of regular gas has decreased. Prices are now about a nickel per gallon less than a month ago.

While prices have fluctuated in 2024, prices have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Washington, D.C.

On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the nation’s capital was $3.70. This increased from the day before when the cost was $3.698. Regular gas is also more expensive in Washington, D.C., than a week ago, when the average price was $3.692 per gallon. Prices are slightly less costly now than a month ago when drivers in Washington, D.C., paid $3.716 per gallon.

Delaware

The average price for a gallon of regular gas on Wednesday in Delaware was $3.365. This was a sizable increase from Tuesday when it cost $3.288. Gas prices are lower than a week ago when the average was $3.372 per gallon. It also costs less for gas now than it did a month ago when drivers in the First State paid $3.461 for a gallon of regular gas.

Virginia

In Virginia, the average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Wednesday was $3.352. This was an increase from the day before when it only cost $3.317 per gallon. Gas prices are less expensive in the state than a week ago, when regular-grade gas was $3.369 per gallon. Prices are also cheaper now compared to a month ago when the price for a gallon of regular was $3.389.

Maryland

On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland was $3.45. This increased from Tuesday when it cost $3.396 per gallon. However, it was a decrease from a week ago, when gas prices in Maryland were $3.464 per gallon. Prices are also lower than a month ago when people in Maryland paid $3.576 for a gallon of regular gas.

Hawaii

Hawaii has the most expensive gas in the nation on Wednesday, with an average of $4.672 per gallon for regular gas. It was a slight increase from Tuesday’s prices when a gallon of regular averaged $4.669 in the state. A week ago, regular gas cost $4.677 per gallon, and a month ago, it was $4.698. Hawaii recently became the state with the most expensive prices for a gallon of regular gas, overtaking California, which, up until August, held this dubious distinction for every month in 2024.

Mississippi

Mississippi continues to be the state with the least expensive gas prices. On Wednesday, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in Mississippi was $2.949, a very slight drop from Tuesday’s price of $2.953. A week ago, regular gas cost $2.968 per gallon in the state. All of those prices are much cheaper than the national average. Mississippi is the only state in the nation with an average price for regular gas under $3.
