A man in Tennessee is battling rising food costs by taking matters into his own backyard and creating a fish farm with at least 100 bluegill fish.
“The price of food has gone to the point where you can’t afford to buy it,” Harvey Tallman said. “It’s either put gas in the car or eat.”
At home, food prices have soared and are now 10% more expensive than they were in 2021, according to a report.

The price of fish, in particular, has gotten so high that Tallman decided he was going to install a 1,000-gallon water tank and stock it with roughly 100 bluegills.
“When you go to the store, check on the price of fish,” he said. “It’s almost $9 a pound. It’s ridiculous.”
“I put 100 in there, five are dead,” according to Tallman.
The fish farmer said he hopes to eat the fish in September when they reach 3 pounds.
Along with the bluegill fish, Tallman said he also grows asparagus, tomatoes, broccoli, and potatoes, and he raises four chickens.
“I have been harvesting asparagus now for almost a month. When you’re really low on groceries, you’ve got fresh asparagus,” he said. “Eggs are going up to $3 a dozen or higher.”
Tallman said he is just trying to survive the rising prices.
