Vice President Kamala Harris has tapped a top Biden White House staffer as her new deputy chief of staff, poaching additional firepower from the West Wing for the second time in recent weeks.
Erin Wilson will begin her new role May 31, a White House official confirmed. The Pennsylvania native is a veteran of national and state Democratic campaigns and was President Joe Biden’s national political director during his winning bid in 2020. She joins Harris from the White House Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, where she is the deputy director.

Last month, the vice president tapped Rebecca Lissner, a top Biden foreign policy aide, as her deputy national security adviser, then the acting senior director of the National Security Council’s strategic planning directorate and an expert on U.S. policy toward Russia.
Wilson joins the office at a time of political upheaval across the country in advance of the midterm elections and as voters confront surging prices, supply chain woes, and the prospect of an uptick in border crossings. Democrats also face the political fallout of a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion striking down constitutional abortion rights.
A former Democratic National Committee director and top aide to Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), Wilson, in an email to her team, said she was excited to start a new chapter with Harris.
“I look forward to continuing the work to build back better in this new role!” Wilson wrote.
In a statement, White House deputy chief of staff Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote that Wilson “has been a key leader of the President’s political team since the launch of his campaign in 2019,” praising her work to “make the first 15 months of this Administration a success.”
Wilson’s “leadership, dedication, and thoughtfulness will be an asset to the Vice President’s team,” O’Malley Dillon said.
Wilson will replace Michael Fuchs, who announced his departure last month — one in a series of recent departures from the top ranks of Harris’s office.

The vice president’s chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, said in April that she was stepping down, just one month after national security adviser Nancy McEldowney.
Harris’s communications team has also seen high turnover, with the exit of her communications director and chief spokesperson late last year, as well as other senior messaging aides.
