Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) got a strong reaction on the internet during his vice presidential debate against Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN).

The first and only projected vice presidential debate between Vance and Walz had a noticeably different tone than the one between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. One thing that the two events shared was memeability, with the internet being dominated by Vance’s unique performance.

At several moments, Vance appeared to smirk at the camera while Walz was speaking, with many comparing it to a fourth wall break.

“JD Vance breaking the 4th wall anytime Walz talks has me chuckling,” former campaign adviser Link Lauren said.

Perhaps the most common comparison was with Jim Halpert from The Office.

“JD Vance keeps breaking the fourth wall. Very Jim Halpert. He’s appealing to millennial women,” Evie magazine editor Brittany Martinez said.

Others expanded on the analogy, comparing Walz to The Office character Kevin Malone.

The Blaze compared it to the iconic closing sequence of Looney Tunes.

Some users tapped into Generation Z culture, comparing Vance to a streamer.

“Jd vance like ‘chat, how we feeling about this?’” a user wrote.
