Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said there is “no doubt” he will not support any senator seeking to replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who opposes former President Donald Trump, stressing the need for unity within the Republican Party.
McConnell announced his retirement ahead of the 2024 election cycle, in which Tuberville said the Republican Party’s chances of retaking the Senate are “looking good in a lot of areas.” When asked about who he would like to see take on McConnell’s position in 2025, he opted to keep his opinion to himself while previewing a litmus test for anyone vying for McConnell’s role.
“Well, there’s no doubt I’m not going to vote for anybody that’s not on board with President Trump,” Tuberville said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “Been there, done that, seen what’s happened. We have to have strong leadership that believes in the American people, believes in our Constitution, and gets away from this deep state, emotional bureaucracy that we have in Washington, D.C. I’m looking forward to being in the majority. I’ve been in four years now, and I’ve not been in the majority at all. We’ve been kicked in the teeth by Sen. Schumer and the Democrats. It’s time to get back to realization.”
When Tuberville was pressed on who he wants to take McConnell’s role, he revealed that he has spoken to the two current frontrunners, Sens. John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX). However, he has told both he is not making a decision until after the election, citing how potential Republican newcomers could make “a huge difference” in the party’s Senate leadership.
Tuberville was also asked about a possible Republican sweep in the 2024 election cycle, keeping control of the House of Representatives while retaking the White House and the Senate. While he acknowledged he does not know as much about the House as he does about the Senate, he thinks the party has “a great chance” at keeping control of the House while getting anywhere between 51 and 54 Senate seats next month.
The Alabama senator specifically called out Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick’s campaign in Pennsylvania, saying McCormick has been running “a very good race.” Tuberville also gave a shoutout to Republican Senate candidates Eric Hovde and Bernie Moreno in Wisconsin and Ohio, respectively.

Ahead of the election next month, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) noted Trump has “astonishing” support against Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid. He noted how billionaire Elon Musk has been actively campaigning for Trump in Pennsylvania, suggesting that “something very special exists there.”
To reach out to more voters, Trump appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience to discuss a myriad of topics, including extraterrestrial life and reflecting on his biggest mistake in his presidency. Trump’s appearance has quickly become one of the most popular episodes of the podcast, which itself is Spotify’s most popular podcast in the United States.
