Actor Robert De Niro campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday in Lincoln Financial Field parking lots in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Jacksonville Jaguars. The actor was seen tailgating with Eagles fans in an unannounced political event, trying to rally voters to support Harris over former President Donald Trump

De Niro walked around the parking lot, mingled with fans, took selfies, and tried some of the food the tailgaters cooked in the parking lots before every Eagles game. Later, the thespian gave an impromptu speech that he read from a piece of paper in front of a small crowd. Video clips on social media showed the actor’s speech praising Harris’s political platform for having a plan to “help workers in the middle class” and supporting so-called “reproductive rights” and “women making their own healthcare decisions.”

Several current and former politicians joined De Niro at the tailgate, including Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), and former Secretary of State John Kerry.

De Niro’s presence at the game drew comparisons to his role as Pat Solitano, Sr., a resident of suburban Philadelphia, a huge Eagles fan, and father of the film’s main character portrayed by Bradley Cooper in the 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook

Philadelphia has seen its fair share of the famous Italian American actor during the presidential campaign. Last week, De Niro was at an event in the city with fellow Hollywood actors and actresses such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, and Tessa Thompson, who portrayed the female lead in the Creed movies, a spinoff of the Rocky Balboa anthology, the popular fictional Philadelphia boxer.

De Niro will be in the city again on Monday for another political campaign event to support Harris for president, signifying just how important the state of Pennsylvania and its 19 electoral votes are to the upcoming election. As of early Monday morning, the Real Clear Politics Average has Trump leading Harris by the smallest of margins, 48.3 to 48.0.
