Gas prices across the nation dropped on Friday, with the national average price for regular gas falling to $3.099 per gallon. After several days of increases at the pumps, Friday’s price was a larger than 2-cent decrease from a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas was $3.122. 

Overall, gas prices have trended downward in recent weeks and months. A month ago, the national average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.181, and a year ago, it was $3.405. The price of gas was an important topic in the country’s political discourse as President Joe Biden was burdened with high gas prices during most of his term. Earlier this year, gas prices began to fall. Yet, despite this string of decreases at the pumps, gas prices remain higher today than during the last months and days of President-elect Donald Trump’s first term.

Washington, D.C.

Gas prices remained steady in Washington, D.C., on Friday with the average price for a gallon of regular gas remaining at $3.274. It’s a slight increase from last week’s price, when a gallon of regular gas was $3.269. A month ago, the average price for a gallon of gas in the nation’s capital was slightly more expensive than today, when residents paid $3.319 per gallon.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland decreased slightly on Friday, falling to $3.047 from Thursday’s cost of $3.054. Prices have been trending downward in the state for a couple weeks now. Friday’s price is cheaper than what gas was a week ago it was $3.069 per gallon. A month ago in the state, residents paid $3.239 for a gallon of regular gas.

Delaware

Gas prices in Delaware continued its downward trend, falling to $2.952 on Friday, a slight decrease from Thursday’s price of $2.96 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas in the state cost $2.971. This, along with the current prices, are much less expensive than the price of gas a month ago, when it was $3.211.

Virginia

Gas prices in Virginia fell to under $3 per gallon on Friday, coming in at $2.996. Gas prices in the state have been slowly trending downward for weeks. A week ago, regular gas in Virginia was $3.024 per gallon. A month ago, it cost $3.066 for a gallon of regular gas in Virginia.
