With the Republican Party gaining the majority in the Senate and White House, the leader to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell will wield a lot of influence over the legislation passed. Scott is currently facing off against Sens. John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX) to be McConnell’s successor.

VOTERS SEND HISTORY-MAKING CANDIDATES TO CONGRESS

“I think everybody realizes that we need to make a change. So the question’s going to be who is going to make sure we get these things done,” Scott said on Sunday Morning Futures. “I built businesses all my life, and here’s the process: you go there, you say, what is my agenda, how to do you build a team, how do you create a plan? You measure the living daylights out of it to get things done.”

Before his service in the Senate, Scott was the governor of Florida, where he cited that 1.7 million jobs were created in his tenure. Before that, Scott founded hospital corporations.

“I’ve probably done, I don’t know, done 500 economic deals in my life. That’s what I’ve done. I’ve brought people together, found common ground,” Scott went on. “And that’s what whoever the leader’s going to be, to get Trump’s agenda done, you’re going to have to bring everybody together and have a plan.”

Scott was recently reelected in Florida, and pointed out that both he and President-elect Donald Trump won the historically blue county of Miami-Dade with about the same number of votes.

McConnell’s senate term expires in 2026. The Kentucky senator notoriously did not help fund Scott’s reelection campaign. This is Scott’s second attempt to become majority leader after challenging McConnell two years ago.
