San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. was suspended for 80 games Friday due to a drug violation, the professional baseball team said on Friday.
The shortstop violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program when he tested positive for performance-enhancing drug Clostebol, the Padres said in a statement.
“We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn today that Fernando Tatis Jr. tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program, and subsequently received an 80-game suspension without pay,” the team said in a statement, according to CBS Sports. “We fully support the Program and are hopeful that Fernando will learn from this experience.”
Such a suspension will sideline Tatis Jr. for the rest of the season, and it stretches into the 2023 season.
