President-elect Donald Trump announced a flurry of new Cabinet selections on Thursday night, including his choices for his Border Patrol commissioner, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director, and ambassador to China.
Trump made six different choices, with the majority geared toward homeland security and immigration.
Trump nominated Rodney Scott to be his commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Scott served as his Border Patrol chief from February 2020 to August 2021.
“Rodney served nearly three decades in the Border Patrol, building vast experience and knowledge in Law Enforcement and Border Security,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Rodney served as the 24th Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, where he implemented Remain-in-Mexico, Title 42, Safe Third Agreements, and achieved record low levels of illegal immigration.”
The president-elect also nominated Caleb Vitello to be the acting director of ICE and Tony Salisbury to be his deputy homeland security adviser for the White House Homeland Security Council. Vitello is a 23-year veteran of ICE and served as the assistant director of the Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs.
Salisbury serves as the special agent in charge for ICE and is expected to work under Stephen Miller in the new role.
Trump also made a major foreign policy move, nominating former Georgia Sen. David Perdue to be his ambassador to China. Perdue served one term in the Senate before losing to Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) in a 2021 runoff. Trump said he would bring “valuable expertise to help build our relationship with China.”
“He will be instrumental in implementing my strategy to maintain Peace in the region, and a productive working relationship with China’s leaders,” Trump said. “David has been a loyal supporter and friend, and I look forward to working with him in his new role!”
Trump also nominated Brandon Judd, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, as his ambassador to Chile.
Trump began his evening selections by nominating former PayPal COO David Sacks to be the “White House A.I. & Crypto Czar.”

“In this important role, David will guide policy for the Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness,” Trump said. “David will focus on making America the clear global leader in both areas. He will safeguard Free Speech online, and steer us away from Big Tech bias and censorship. He will work on a legal framework so the Crypto industry has the clarity it has been asking for, and can thrive in the U.S.”
He later added that Sacks has the “knowledge, business experience, intelligence, and pragmatism to MAKE AMERICA GREAT in these two critical technologies.”
