The View co-host Sunny Hostin declared that President Donald Trump was a “DEI hire” on Tuesday in reaction to the president announcing the end of diversity, equity and inclusion programs within the federal government.
“The one thing I did think about was the hypocrisy of having a man be inaugurated to be president on the same day as we commemorate MLK and that same man saying that he was going to get rid of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” Hostin said.
“The irony of it!” co-host Joy Behar chimed in.
“Because Martin Luther King not only wanted racial equality, he wanted economic equality. And that is something people tend to miss,” Hostin continued.
Hostin added by citing a quote from the civil rights leader: “It’s all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel just to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”
Hostin went on to slam the billionaire president for not ascending to the role based on “merit” but contended he didn’t earn it.
“You’re talking about a man who didn’t become the president of the United States because of merit. He hasn’t really — he had no political experience whatsoever,” Hostin said of the second term-president.
“He had no business experience. He was given everything he has. He is a legacy hire!” she declared, adding, “He is, if anything, a DEI hire: A ‘didn’t earn it’ hire!”
The View’s audience applauded loudly to Hostin’s sentiments.

On Monday, the president issued an executive order calling for the end of “illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government.”
In a memo issued on Tuesday to heads of government departments and agencies from the Office of Personnel Management, the Trump administration ordered all DEI roles to be placed on paid leave and for agencies to submit a written plan by Jan. 31 for dismissing the employees.
