Greene is the chairwoman of the DOGE subcommittee, which had its first hearing Wednesday. Throughout the hearing, ranking member Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) and Reps. Robert Garcia (D-CA) and Greg Casar (D-TX) criticized DOGE head Elon Musk. Greene appeared on Fox News’s Hannity hours after the hearing to defend him.

“Elon Musk is giving our entire country an inside look at the actual fraud, waste, abuse that’s been going on for decades. And Americans are cheering and cheering. Everyone did vote for this,” Greene said. “So I think the Democrat Party just hasn’t figured out who they are, but they’ve decided to fight against the very issue that most Americans really care about, and that’s $36 trillion in debt.”

Democratic lawmakers called to demand testimony from Musk to the committee, which was a point of debate among committee members.

Musk’s new department has begun its investigations into the federal government with some obstacles. While a lawsuit attempting to keep DOGE out of Labor Department data was dismissed, another U.S. district judge ruled against the department accessing the Treasury. DOGE launched its website late Wednesday night.

DOGE is examining the Education, Homeland Security, and Treasury departments and, most recently, NASA. The team is hoping to accomplish all of its goals by July 4, 2026.
