A winemaker in Italy is defending its “historical” selection of wine bottles featuring controversial figures, including Adolf Hitler.
The line of bottles has come under fire, but the Vini Lunardelli winery says there is no “political” message relating to the line.
Andrea Lunardelli, the son of Vini and heir to the winery, disagrees, according to a report.

He wants to discontinue the line of bottles by early 2023, when Vini retires, he said.
Bottles featuring the images of Hitler, Francisco Franco, and Joseph Stalin began being sold in 1995, the report noted.
“Unfortunately, the most requested label [in the ‘historical’ line] is Hitler – especially by Germans, but also by many British, Nordic, French, and Russians,” the younger Lunardelli said. “But no Italian wants Hitler.”
He is discontinuing the line because he wants to, not as a way of surrendering to growing pressure from advocacy groups, he said.
“Whoever buys [the Hitler wine] is a collector, or remembers history, or wants nationalism against the current policies of multinationals … not against Jews,” Andrea said.
