A 2024 presidential run by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) could end up benefiting former President Donald Trump.
While Cheney has admitted she is “thinking about” running for president, a Yahoo News/YouGov poll released Tuesday showed that if the congresswoman pursued a presidential bid as an independent, she could swing the election in Trump’s favor.

The poll found that if the 2024 election were held today with Trump facing off against President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee and Cheney as an independent candidate, Trump would hold an 8-point lead over Biden, 40% to 32%.
Yet without Cheney in the race, the poll found that Trump would trail Biden by 4 points, 46% to 42%.
The poll results indicated that Biden could lose voters with Cheney in the election mix, suggesting Democratic voters may be more likely to break party rank.
Of Cheney’s 11% of the vote, 69% was pulled from Biden, while just 15% came from those likely to vote for Trump.
