Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), fired back at the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire for a tweet celebrating the four-year anniversary of his death.
“This is hideous — even by twitters standards,” she tweeted in response. “I really fear for the future of the world and how we have come to treat each other — especially on social media. I hope no one ever does anything like this to any of you.”

The official Twitter account for the New Hampshire Libertarian Party had tweeted a photo of Meghan McCain mourning her father’s passing with the caption “Happy Holidays.” Her father, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, died of brain cancer on Aug. 25, 2018.
McCain recalled how the photo the party tweeted out was “most pain I’ve ever been in — physically, emotionally — worse than any moment of childbirth.” But the party was seemingly unyielding.
In follow-up tweets, the Granite State’s Libertarian Party teased that it had big plans for when the “Clintons finally kick the bucket” and defended its tweet about the McCains, suggesting it was dancing “on the graves of war criminals.”

Her father became a national hero for his actions in Vietnam. During the war, he was captured by the North Vietnamese and subjected to intense forms of torture, but he refused an early release until his fellow Americans were also let go. He suffered injuries that left him with lifelong disabilities.
“How I survived the grief: God. Friends. Family. Intense therapy. Medication. I am not ashamed of feeling pain publicly. Today is the 4 year anniversary of my dads death and to anyone who is here or has been here — YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Reach out, ask for help, it will get better,” McCain said.

The tweets from the New Hampshire Libertarian Party stoked outrage on Twitter.
This is a horrible, disgusting tweet. I already know the response will be that McCain advocated wars and military actions that are horrible and disgusting. That doesn’t justify being cruel to his family and loved ones. If you want to bring people to libertarianism, show humanity.

Attacks on the McCain family are nothing new. During the 2016 campaign, then-Republican presidential contender Donald Trump remarked, “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire has previously been embroiled in controversy for its tweets. For example, in a since-deleted tweet on Martin Luther King Day, the party suggested that black people were “in debt” to the United States, according to Raw Story.
“Black people in America get special access to essential drugs, receive special federal funding due to race, and are first-in-line for every college and every job,” the tweet read, per the outlet. “America isn’t in debt to black people, if anything it’s the other way around.”
