Mom, lock up your china, the boys are at it again!
Two brothers who have not spoken to each other in 30 years are facing off in a mayor’s race.
Bill and Charles Steele are both on the ballot to be the next mayor of Port Colborne, a Canadian city in Ontario that sits 20 miles west of Buffalo, New York, according to a report.
DEATH ROW INMATE HAS SHOCKING LAST WORDS FOR STATE GOVERNOR
Bill is the incumbent and has served in elected office for over two decades, but Charles said it is time to see “regular people” in office.
“If I hadn’t run, then my brother would have been acclaimed mayor because nobody else is running,” Charles said.
“A lot of politicians have silver spoons in their mouths. We could use some new thinking.”
Bill has never spoken about his prior political opponents and said his brother will not change that, the report noted.
“I’m here to get Bill Steele elected. I’ve got a great campaign team, we’ve got more people on board this campaign than we’ve ever had,” he said.
“I’m here to talk about what we’re going to do for the city when we’re victorious.”
What caused the riff between the brothers has not been confirmed, and Charles said his running against his brother is nothing personal.
Bill has plans to make the city a cruise destination, which Charles is against, according to the report.
“So far, it’s up to $10 million … and I can’t imagine cost overruns and what it would cost,” Charles said.
“They want to build a pavilion and things like that, but [people from the cruises] really don’t get off the ships and come into the business section of town.”
He is unsure how his parents would feel about his attempt to unseat his brother, he added.
For his part, Bill is not concerned about losing to Charles.
“I’ve raised my family here. My roots are here. I run a business here, so everybody knows who I am,” he said.
