An acclaimed investigative journalist was found stabbed to death outside his Las Vegas home Saturday morning, his family and authorities said.
The killing of Jeff German, 69, of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, is now under investigation by authorities, who stress they believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
“LVMPD enacted its major case protocol Saturday in the homicide investigation,” the Las Vegas Police Department department said, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “This brings together a variety of resources to maximize the investigative effort and apply a sense of urgency to the apprehension of the suspect.”

“We do have some leads. We are pursuing a suspect but the suspect is outstanding,” NVMPD Captain Dori Koren added.
German’s more than three-decade-long career saw him break stories on organized crime, government corruption, the Las Vegas mass shooting, and more, according to his news organization.
Garman’s colleagues and Las Vegas public officials were quick to express their sorrow over his death.
“The Review-Journal family is devastated to lose Jeff,” Executive Editor Glenn Cook said. “He was the gold standard of the news business. It’s hard to imagine what Las Vegas would be like today without his many years of shining a bright light on dark places.”
“This was a senseless act of violence,” Mayor Carolyn Goodman said. “Loss of life in this manner is always shocking and must stop. We will be closely following the police investigation.”

German’s investigative reporting resulted in many real-life changes.
For example, his reporting on the 2017 mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas led to Nevada creating a task force to ramp up security requirements around casinos, after he found that officials had been lax in their enforcement of security laws. His year-long investigation into the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority led to an audit that resulted in several arrests.
