A real-life tower of terror occurred when at least 16 people were injured Sunday after a amusement park ride plummeted roughly 50 feet and left many fearing the passengers were dead.
Approximately 50 passengers were on the “drop tower” ride at the Phase 8 amusement park in Punjab’s Mohali district in India when a malfunction caused the ride to plummet 50 feet to the ground, according to a report.

Footage of the incident went viral, with the brightly lit carriage plunging to the Earth and crashing on a platform with tremendous force, causing multiple passengers to fly from their strapped-in seats.
Many online have compared the incident to an elevator crash, with one witness saying, “We picked up the injured and rushed to the hospital.”
No ambulances were reportedly available, and several of the wounded had to be transported in a police van, according to the report.

The “organizers fled the scene,” he added, and bouncers “threatened” bystanders who were intervening.
The exact cause of the accident is not confirmed, but organizers said it was a “technical issue.”
