UPS announced Wednesday that it was seeking to hire more than 100,000 seasonal employees ahead of the holiday rush this year.
The delivery service is putting out a call earlier than usual this year, along with a new application system that is expected to make hiring faster and easier. Prospective employees could fill out the application and receive a job offer in 25 minutes, the company said.

“We have made our hiring process as simple and easy as possible,” Nando Cesarone, executive vice president and president of U.S. Operations, said in a news release. “UPS’s strength has always been our people, and we are excited about the opportunity to welcome new UPSers to our team as we deliver what matters for our customers this holiday season.”
The company is advertising full- and part-time jobs in three areas: seasonal delivery drivers, package handlers, and driver helpers.
The average pay for a UPS delivery driver is $95,000-$112,000 for tractor-trailer drivers, UPS said, plus $50,000 in health and welfare benefits. Full-time drivers could make $42 per hour after four years, the release added.

A surge in deliveries usually begins in October and stretches into January, according to the Associated Press. The new hiring level comes after the COVID-19 pandemic caused online shopping to skyrocket. Although the surge has dwindled, the number of online orders is still higher than it was before the pandemic.
The company also touted opportunities for eventual permanent placement. Last year, 35,000 seasonal employees were offered full-time positions, according to the release.
