Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued an emergency disaster proclamation to help his state cope with the hundreds of migrants being bused in from Texas.

Around 75 members of the Illinois National Guard were activated as part of the emergency proclamation Wednesday to provide state resources to migrants arriving nearly daily to Chicago.

“The state of Illinois is doing everything in its power to support local jurisdictions to help ensure that the right tools and supports are in place as we move forward with this humanitarian response,” Pritzker said.

Services provided to the migrants include transportation, emergency housing, food, and medical attention.

Around 500 migrants have arrived in Chicago since Aug. 31, with more continuing to arrive unannounced, officials said.

Pritzker criticized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for busing the migrants to cities run by Democrats, including Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago, calling it “a stunt playing games with people’s lives.”

Abbott defended the move, tweeting: “Sanctuary city mayors complain they are overwhelmed by a few dozen migrants arriving on buses from Texas. It’s a fraction of what Texas faces on a daily basis. We will continue bussing migrants until Biden secures the border.”
