Despite Democrats being the culprits of rising inflation, the Biden administration’s messaging ploy to paint itself as the savior may be working in terms of deceiving its voter base ahead of the midterm elections, according to Washington Examiner Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon.

Appearing on Fox Business Friday, Gurdon told host Cheryl Casone that recent poll numbers suggest President Joe Biden’s approval rating is up among Democratic voters as Biden celebrates policies, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, that are disguised as helping the public while they instead increase spending.

“A lot of people will be looking through this,” Gurdon said. “They’ll be feeling the pain in their pocketbooks. They’ll be spending their money, but the Democrats and the Biden White House can say or believe that their falsehoods of this are working and may work in time for them to do better in November than they previously thought they would.”

While Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan could add $1 trillion to the federal deficit, Gurdon also suggested that Republicans focus on fiscal discipline and inflation when campaigning on the economy.

“Deficits, historically, they have not moved voters very much,” Gurdon said. “It’s good for a candidate, whether it’s DeSantis or anybody else on the Republican side, to suggest that they have fiscal discipline, but deficit spending is not — and the accumulating deficits is not something which has generally moved the needle very much in elections.”

A new Associated Press/NORC poll suggested Biden’s approval ratings have increased slightly in recent weeks, but the public is largely dissatisfied with the direction of the economy and the country.
