Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Pierluisi confirmed the island lost electricity but is beginning to work to restore power, beginning with the Palo Seco power plant.

Hurricane Fiona intensified from a tropical storm and is currently 50 miles south of Ponce Puerto Rico, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is currently moving West-Northwest at 8 miles per hour.

President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration from the Governor Sunday, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to organize and coordinate relief efforts.

The island is still recovering from the disastrous impact of Hurricane Maria in 2017, where thousands of people died and relief was held up.
