Authorities confirmed the body of a former Rhode Island mayor was found in her home Monday along with one other corpse.

The identity of the body was revealed by a spokesman for the Rhode Island Department of Public Health to Fox News Digital. The mayor of Woonsocket from 1995 to 2009, Susan Menard, took two days to identify, as police found the two bodies “severely decomposed.” The identity of the second body is still being investigated. Authorities do not believe foul play was involved in their deaths, but the investigation is ongoing.

TWO DECOMPOSED BODIES FOUND IN HOME OF FORMER RHODE ISLAND MAYOR

Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, the current mayor of Woonsocket, offered her condolences after Menard’s body was identified.

“On behalf of our City, I offer our deepest condolences to her family and friends, and I want them to know that she is in our thoughts and prayers,” she said, according to Fox News. “Mayor Menard has left an enduring legacy in Woonsocket through her many years of public service, and she will also be remembered for her pioneering achievements in advancing the role of women in Rhode Island municipal politics being only the second elected female mayor in the history of the state.”

The bodies were discovered after a neighbor called police at around 4 a.m. on Monday morning, complaining of an odor emanating from the house.
