A judge in Washington, D.C., sentenced an Iowa man to 86 months in prison for assaulting a police officer during the Jan. 6 Capital riot.

Kyle Young, 38, pleaded guilty in May to assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers for being part of a group that attacked then-Washington police officer Michael Fanone.

Young used a strobe light to disorient the group of police officers forming a line to defend the Capitolm, and he also admitted to throwing a speaker at officers and grabbing Fanone, per court filings.

Justice Department prosecutors recommended 86 months in prison for Young, which U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson agreed with.

Jackson, an Obama appointee, slammed Young during sentencing for his conduct on Jan. 6 and for bringing his 16-year-old son to the riot.

“It defies understanding that the presence of your 16-year-old son by your side on Jan. 6 did not inspire you to curb your behavior in the slightest,” Jackson said. “You were not prosecuted for being a Trump supporter. … You are not a political prisoner. … You were trying to stop the singular thing that makes America America: the peaceful transfer of power. That’s what ‘stop the steal’ meant.”

Jackson also slammed former President Donald Trump during Young’s sentencing.

“The judiciary … has to make it clear: It is not patriotism — it is not standing up for America to stand up for one man who knows full well that he lost instead of the Constitution he was trying to subvert,” Jackson said.

Young was reportedly remorseful during his sentencing, apologizing to Fanone, saying, “If I could take it back, I would.”
