“I am proud of Florida’s first responders and fortunate to have the opportunity to say thank you,” DeSantis said. “They have been on the front lines since the moment Hurricane Ian impacted southwest Florida. They have rescued, comforted, and strengthened great Floridians devastated by the hurricane, and I commend them for their dedication and courage.”

DeSantis announced resources to help first responders with mental health needs.

“We know the ripple effects of a disaster go beyond physical destruction to include grief and distress in a community, and those serving on the front lines of Florida’s communities have the full support from our state, including the mental health aspects of recovery,” she said.

DeSantis has also praised the generosity of those who donated to the Florida Disaster Fund, noting that nearly $35 million in donations had been raised within the first five days of activation.

“The support for Florida has been incredible, and the governor and I are appreciative for help from across the country,” DeSantis said. “As we’ve traveled the state to assess damage, we’ve encountered resilient and strong Floridians who are ready to get back to normal. This $35 million will help with those recovery and rebuilding efforts.”

She also worked with the Florida National Guard on Pine Island on Monday, delivering food and water to those who were unable to reach the mainland.

“While we are working to restore ground transportation and utilities, the National Guard and first responders have supported the community every step of the way,” DeSantis said. “The governor and I are grateful for their service.”
