The Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, announced it will suspend performing any more transgender surgeries on minors after the hospital received backlash for the controversial practice.
The hospital announced the pause on the procedures in a Friday letter to state Rep. Jason Zachary (R), saying it would conduct a review based on new recommendations.

“We are pausing gender affirmation surgeries under 19, while we complete this review, which may take several months,” the letter said.
The pause in “gender affirmation surgeries” comes after recordings surfaced of the procedure being promoted by the hospital and touted as a big moneymaker for the institution.
The revelations caused backlash from various individuals, including Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who said “using children for profit and political gain is deeply disturbing.”
