The son of Nevada state Sen. Pat Spearman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a shooting at the family home Thursday night in North Las Vegas.
Spearman, a Democrat, represents Carson City and is running for mayor of North Las Vegas.
Police responded to a call of a shooting at 6:45 p.m. and found Spearman’s nephew had been shot. He was taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition, according to reports.
Suspect Naonche Osborne, 21, allegedly ran from the scene but was later captured by police and arrested. Besides attempted murder, he was also booked on charges of battery with a deadly weapon and firing a gun into an occupied structure.
Osborne previously had been charged with carrying a concealed explosive, firearm, or weapon, but the case was dismissed after he completed mental health treatment, 8 News Now reported.

“This family tragedy is not about politics, and it’s not about me,” Spearman told reporters Friday. “This is a very difficult time for our family. I stand before you as a mother, as a sister, as an auntie, and I’m heartbroken.”
She identified her nephew as David and said her son shot him in an altercation. Spearman went on to say she adopted Osborne as a teenager because he was exposed to violence as a child and needed a strong, loving home. She wanted to give him a better life.
“He made a very bad decision last night,” Spearman said. “Thank God my nephew will recover. My entire life, I have been committed to making a better place and life for people to help them improve their situations.”
