Two nurses were killed as the result of a shooting that happened inside a Dallas hospital Saturday morning.
A gunman entered the maternity ward of the Methodist Dallas Medical Center and shot two of its nurses. Charley Wilkison, CEO of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, said that a Methodist Health System Police Officer at the scene heard the shots, found the gunman, and fired once to strike him. The man has since been detained, stabilized, and is actively receiving treatment at another unidentified hospital, according to Methodist Dallas.

“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken at the loss of two of our beloved team members,” the hospital said in a statement. “Our entire organization is grieving this unimaginable tragedy. During this devastating time, we want to ensure our patients and employees that Methodist Dallas Medical Center is safe, and there is no ongoing threat. Our prayers are with our lost co-workers and their families, as well as our entire Methodist family. We appreciate the community’s support during this difficult time.”
An investigation is ongoing. Dallas Police have yet to identify the shooter or his victims.
Dallas Methodist is a nearly 100-year-old institution. It is considered “one of the leading teaching” Texas hospitals.
