Millions of United States citizens have less than one month to claim COVID-19 stimulus payments, which they may still be eligible for.
Families and individuals who don’t pay taxes due to having little or no income have until Nov. 15 to fill out simplified tax returns, according to the Government Accountability Office. The deadline for those who do pay taxes passed on October 17.

From April 2020 to December 2021, Congress authorized the payment of $931 billion to 165 million eligible citizens through direct stimulus payments across three waves in order to alleviate the financial burdens of the COVID-19 pandemic. A person with an income below $75,000 and married couples with an income below $150,000 were eligible for all three waves of payments.

The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury have struggled to send out payments to those especially impoverished, particularly homeless people and those with little to no internet access.
Congress previously voted to extend the child tax credit to more families, many of whom have already received their new payments.
