‘WHERE IS NANCY?’: PAUL PELOSI INTRUDER WANTED TO KNOW WHERE SPEAKER WAS BEFORE ATTACK

“Our officers observed Mr. Pelosi and the suspect both holding a hammer. The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup, and rendered medical aid,” San Francisco Chief of Police William Scott said during a press conference.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was in Washington, D.C., at the time of the attack. She began traveling to San Francisco around mid-Friday and was able to speak with her husband after the attack, per multiple reports.

Responding officers had arrived at the scene around 2:27 a.m. local time, according to police. An official later clarified that only one hammer was involved in the attack and that Paul Pelosi and Depape had “struggled” for control over it.

Paul Pelosi was transported to a hospital following the attack and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the speaker’s office.

“Mr. Pelosi was admitted to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. His doctors expect a full recovery,” said Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi. “The Speaker and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, constituents and people around the country.”

Police were tight-lipped on details during the press conference, but the intruder asked, “Where is Nancy?” during the break-in and sought to restrain him while “waiting for Nancy,” CNN reported.

Depape has a history of spouting conspiracy and extremist right-wing views on social media, according to multiple reports. This included content about COVID-19 vaccines, the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and the 2020 election. He is also reportedly estranged from his family.
