Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said if Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) runs for president in 2028 voters will view him as an “elitist” as they did with former Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign in 2024.
“What the American people value most is authenticity, even if they disagree with the person who is talking,” Concha said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “Newsom’s $18 billion train that was never built is more real than Gavin Newsom right now.”
Concha criticized Newsom for not being authentic, arguing that voters in working-class areas will not relate to him.
WHO IS KEVIN WARSH, TRUMP’S PICK TO BE THE NEXT FEDERAL CHAIRMAN?
“[Newsom] is learning that hair gel and veneer teeth can only get you so far, especially in states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, those working-class people that decide voters are going to look at this guy from California the same way they looked at Kamala Harris. An elitist,” he said.
“I’m sorry, he’s not authentic,” Concha said. “That’s painfully obvious, and he only has trolling and duplicity to run on at this point, and in the end, if they run Gavin Newsom, it will be the same results as we saw with Kamala Harris.”
“JD Vance wins every swing state, popular vote, and Democrats are in the woods once again because they picked another California person who can’t relate to real people in the parts of the country they need to win,” he added.

Concha said that while Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) has also been floated as another presidential candidate in 2028, he doesn’t have the “it factor.”
“[Pritzker] is being touted by James Carville, for example, as somebody who could win, but in the end he also has an authenticity problem,” Concha said. “He doesn’t have that ‘it’ factor like Obama and Clinton; they were electric on the speech.”
