Dallas Cowboys owner and billionaire Jerry Jones gifted $500,000 to Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) ahead of the midterm elections, in which he faces Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke.
The donation was sent on Oct. 18, three weeks before the Nov. 8 election.

Oil executive Syed Javaid Anwar, president of Midland Energy Inc., also pitched in last minute for the governor. On Oct. 25, he similarly donated $500,000 to Abbott’s campaign. Joining the group, Executive Chairman Ken Fisher of Fisher Investments gave $500,000 on Oct. 12.
The last-minute large donations provide the Abbott campaign with fuel to make its final push in the reelection campaign.
According to a report, which cited records as far back as 2000, this is the most Jones has ever spent on a Texas statewide election.
Between Sept. 30 and Oct. 29, Abbott’s campaign raised $8.8 million, compared to O’Rourke’s $10.5 million.
