Today host Savannah Guthrie ended her monthslong absence from the show as outside attendees cheered her return on Monday.

Guthrie hasn’t appeared on Today since Jan. 30, two days before her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared on Feb. 1. Authorities believe Guthrie’s mother had been kidnapped or taken against her will, becoming a national story as law enforcement searched for her.

“Well, here we go, ready or not, let’s do the news,” Guthrie said as Today co-host Craig Melvin said it’s “so good to have you back.”

Later in the show, Melvin and his other co-hosts welcomed back Guthrie, “our north star,” calling for Guthrie to come outside as various people held up signs and cheered for her return. Guthrie said the signs were “so beautiful,” and that she and her family had received “so much kindness.”

THIS EASTER, PRAISE JESUS AND THANK A FARMER

Guthrie acknowledged her mother’s disappearance in a video released on Easter, saying she has “questioned” if Jesus had ever experienced her “grievance” of uncertainty since her mother vanished. She added that Jesus Christ “knew the plan” that resurrection would follow after suffering, and she said the faith of Christians “gives us a spiritual conviction that we will be reborn, that God will redeem this pain.”

Guthrie conducted her first interview after her mother disappeared in late March and said she wakes up in the middle of every night.
