Comedian and late-night talk show host Bill Maher warned about the rise of antisemitism and how groups with otherwise fundamentally opposing views are united on the issue.
“It’s pretty scary when those two groups are somehow aligned on this issue and no other issue,” Maher said on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday.
Maher and his guests, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, British conservative political commentator Douglas Murray, and national security and political analyst Paul Rieckhoff, addressed the topics of free speech and antisemitism, commenting on the United Kingdom’s decision to bar rapper Kanye West from entering the country due to his history of antisemitic remarks.
“Antisemitism and what you can say has changed a lot in the last couple of years,” Maher said.
He cited a Netflix documentary called Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere. The documentary dives into the online subculture of male influencers promoting “red pill” ideology and extreme masculinity.
“The meathead bros of the manosphere and the crazy f****** pink-haired weirdos of the far Left on campus agree on [antisemitism]. They don’t like the Jews, either one of them. They both think the Jews are the problem of the world,” Maher said.
He added that Jewish people have been disliked throughout history. “I don’t know who put the ‘kick me’ sign on their back.”
Maher’s guests brought up West’s outward hatred toward Jews and how it’s become so normalized.

“There’s been a normalization of it when it comes to Jews from the far Right and the far Left,” Murray said.
“Things you couldn’t say are being said now about all sorts of groups and people,” Dr. Emanuel said.
