Former Vice President Mike Pence is signaling a 2024 presidential run, increasing his political staff with experienced operatives.
Pence’s team consists of about two dozen staffers, with that number likely to increase soon, Politico reported. Outgoing Sen. Ben Sasse’s (R-NE) spokesman, Alison Kjergaard, is set to take up the role of communication director for Advancing American Freedom, a nonprofit organization aligned with Pence that functions as a campaign-in-waiting. Two additional communication staffers and fundraising aides are set to join the team next year.

Pence has been increasingly hinting at a presidential run that would pit him against his onetime boss, Donald Trump, distancing himself from the former president in recent weeks. When asked on several occasions whether Trump should run again or whether he would support his former running mate, Pence quipped, “I think we’ll have better choices in the future.”
While declining to say whether he plans to run, Pence has reiterated that he will take the time around Christmas to consider a bid.
Aside from preparing a campaign staff, Pence has also set out on a book tour for his recently released memoir, So Help Me God, which is doubling as a pre-campaign tour. He is set to tour megachurches across the country in addition to other political stops.

Pence said he plans to be involved in the political process in some capacity.
“Whether we are in the debate as a candidate, or in the debate as simply as an active Republican, I look forward to getting behind the Republican cause and supporting candidates around the country as well as our nominee to get this country turned back to the policies that will make us strong and prosperous again,” he said in a statement to CBS News.
