Qatar was eliminated from the World Cup Friday after scoring a single goal.
The country’s men’s team lost a 3-1 game to Senegal after getting shut out 2-0 by Ecuador Sunday. This is the quickest a host country has been disqualified from the World Cup since the global tournament began in 1930.
Sunday’s game had the fewest shots on goal since the statistic began to be recorded in 1966 at 11 shots, six of which Ecuador took. It was Qatar’s first World Cup game, as the team had never qualified before.
