Not one but two mistakes just in the first page of the filing.
“And ‘Sentator,’” Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division Harmeet Dhillon responded.
“Deer Super Court, Plez donut reverc the Virgna voters dession to redistrik the Stat,” Being Libertarian wrote, signing off, “Thanx, Virgna Democrats.”
“It’s one thing to misspell things on social media. We all do it, and it’s a little embarrassing,” one user wrote on X. “But to be the Speaker of the House of Delegates and you misspell the name of your own state in a desperate legal appeal to the Supreme Court of the freaking United States about (and when EVERYONE is watching, mind you), that’s some major-league ouch, right there.”
“’Virginia’ and ‘Senator’ are misspelled in the motion to delay the Virginia Supreme Court’s ruling on gerrymandering,” another user wrote on X. “Errors like this are sloppy and undermine the case being made.”
But the court documents to the Supreme Court were not the only flubs Virginia Democrats were grilled over on Friday. Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones also misspelled “attorney” in a graphic for a press release.
“People have been surprised by the misspelling of ‘Virginia’ and ‘Senator’ in the court filings,” Jason Miyares wrote. “But some saw this coming.”

“Painful. Humiliating,” former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli wrote in response to a screenshot of the misspelling.
“Based on the comments to his post, the good news for Jay Jones is that he may soon be known more as the dumbest lawyer in America as opposed to simply being known as the guy with violent murder fantasies,” Ian Prior, senior adviser at America First Legal, said.
