President Donald Trump on Monday labeled himself the “father of fertility” on Monday for his administration’s work to protect in vitro fertilization and cut costs associated with the procedure.
Trump made the comments during an Oval Office event with administration officials, congressional allies, and IVF advocates announcing a new federal directive allowing employers to offer additional fertility insurance packages to employees. In particular, the president said the issue of IVF was first brought to his attention by Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) after the Alabama Supreme Court issued a ruling that questioned the legality of the procedure in 2024.
“She said, ‘Sir, we have to do something,’” Trump said. “And I’m a quick study. So I learned everything there is to learn in about three to four minutes, and I became the father of fertility.
“It just made a lot of sense to me,” Trump said. “She explained it well. I hope you tell that story. What happened to you, that you were virtually attacked with a bad ruling from court. Very bad ruling, as you remember in Alabama.”
IVF was a hot-button issue during Trump’s 2024 White House comeback bid after the Alabama Supreme Court granted personhood rights to embryos in a medical malpractice case in which embryos were accidentally destroyed without the consent of the parents.
The ruling resulted in hospitals throughout Alabama suspending IVF treatment until the state legislature passed a new law revoking personhood rights for embryos created through the procedure.
Britt, who attended the Oval Office event, praised the president for having pushed the state of Alabama to address the situation.
“You stepped in and saved the day and made sure that we had nationwide access to IVF and done so much,” Britt said.

During Monday’s event at the White House, the president also touted his administration’s efforts to cut costs associated with IVF medication through TrumpRX.
“One drug, commonly used in IVF, has gone from — as an example, $966 to $168 — a difference of 500%,” said Trump. “This is the most incredible thing, and it’s not talked about by the fake news.”
